The other way

Grace has had this on/off/semi persistent runny nose for the last while, and has been spending way too much time with her finger up her nose – regardless of the protests of her parents.

Other than persistently trying to get her to use a tissue we've told her that we don't want to see her with her finger in her nose and if she wants to do that she has to go and do it in private in her room (not that she ever does).

We were having breakfast this morning and Grace had finished and was sitting at her table. She was facing away from us but clearly had her finger up her nose. "Grace, take your finger out of your nose." To which she protested, "I'm facing the other way!" (i.e. but you can't see me).

Thomas and the doctor

Grace and I have read "Thomas goes to the doctor" many times (she loves doctor books for some reason). I was drying her hair and she was looking at the book and I hear her talking. I turned off the hair dryer and listened closely and realised that she was busy reading the book to herself, but not just vaguely talking about the pictures, she was saying every word exactly as it is written.

To the best of my knowledge she can't read, which means that she has memorised at least 80% of the book and can repeat it word for word with the visual prompting of the pictures. Ans it has been a while since we last looked at that book. I was definitely surprised and fascinated.

A whale of a tale

Our poor little boy seems to have picked up a snotty nose from his sister – it probably doesn't help that she does things like coughing in his face.He is doing okay, but has been doing this cough & choke act which entirely freaks his mama out, especially when it happens through the night. He has been doing better today, so here's hoping for a good night sleep for all tonight.

Donné always sings to Grace when she goes to say good night to her before bed time, and now Grace has started singing for mama. Today she sung, "Twinkle, twinkle," and "You're a special little girl," to Donné while scratching her back.

That broken car

Grace and Donné were going to the shops for a few things at the end of the day and walked out through the office. As Grace goes through the door she looks at the damage to Bob the BMW and says, "I can see the broken car….oh my goodness!"

Breastfeeding cushions

Donné put the little head support cushion onto Grace as her breastfeeding cushion, so off she went to fetch Apollo for his feed.

Lea’s party

This is the first time Grace has actually jumped on a jumping castle. Before it was either the noise from the pump, or just that there were other children on it bothered Grace too much. Today she jumped with total strangers, and did it with glee.

We’ve offered Grace Flings before and she has totally rejected them, but today she noshed her first Fling.

MVA

Grace and I had a rough start to the afternoon. She had decided that it was time for a haircut…right now….and she does need one, so we decided to embrace the moment and get to the hairdresser. After the hairdresser we were going to go to the gym for a swim. Bags packed, Grace fed, off we go. 2 minutes from home and CRASH. Oh bother. Fortunately we and everyone in the other car are fine. Unfortunately Bob has taken some shots and has bits of car scraping along the front tyre.

Grace seemed to handle it really well. She was calm while we exchanged details and so forth, and was more concerned that we were heading home rather than to the hairdresser. Fortunately it was just a car swap at home and then off to the hairdresser…..who was booked full for the day.

Okay, so Grace was okay with making an appointment another day, but she did keep asking to go to the hairdresser when we got back into the car. Off to gym, ready for some relaxing time swimming. "Um, sir, the leisure pool is closed today as the top step is being fixed." Really?? Okay, now we're getting tears, and Grace wants to go to Canal Walk to swim at the gym there…..which we did….and it was open! And we had a good time.

When we got home Grace says to Donné, "Cars get broken mom, that's just how it is. Bob's broken." (which is not something I said to her). So she seems okay.

This morning Grace had us laughing, we were on our way to get a cup of coffee and she pipes up from the back, "I was just joking, I said it was Minnie in the car, but it is actually Donald, hehehe." Funny little munchkin.

Let’s find out what everyone did

Granny groups

Granny arrived for a visit today which had Grace jumping with excitement. Keren came along for the ride too which just meant even more excitement. And the excitement turned into group time….

The chairs were gathered, and monkey came to join in. First it was time for the calling everyone song, "I am waiting can you see…" It is the song which the teachers sing to gather the children to the mat. Now it's time for everyone to sing together – first up is the South America song! "South America! South America! mumble, mumble, snap snap here and snap snap there, South America! South America!" "Okay guys," time for the next song.

"The toe bone's connected to the foot bone, the foot bone's connected to the ankle bone, the ankle bone's connected to the knee bone, this is the skeleton song, the knee bone's connected to the hip bone, the hip bone's connected to the back bone, the back bone's connected to the neck bone, this is the skeleton song. These bones, these bones, these dry bones." "Okay guys," time for the next thing.

Out comes a book, she opens it up, "Okay guys, can you all see? Okay guys, have you all seen it?" Next page, "Okay guys," and so we go.

Oh no, then monkey was naughty. I'm not sure exactly what he was doing, but he got sent to the thinking chair, "Go and think about what you were doing monkey." "Okay guys…"

And so it went.
