Opportunities

We had breakfast this morning with a good friend who is visiting from Pretoria (we worked together when I was up there). While we were talking I was saying that there are so many opportunities (I was talking about work) and his response was quite interesting. I can't quite quote him, but I'll try to capture the essence, "It is good to know that there are opportunities out there. Everyone [referring to work colleagues] has a kind of scared attitude – there are companies that close, and it feels like there are lots of people on the market – so people worry about their options and security. So it is good to know there are opportunities."

There are opportunities (in all areas) for people willing to take them. Opportunities come with their own risks but (to me) it seems riskier to not take them and to get stuck. This year I am trying to grab hold of the opportunities and add as much value as I can to the world around me. I am interested to see where it will take me.

One of the things which has had a big impact on me and my thinking was listening (and relistening) to the audio version of the book "Linchpin" by Seth Godin. I got a really cheap copy of the audio version on Audible by signing up for their $8 a month trial for 3 months (I also bought two other audio books during that trial).
