New tricks

Eli has learnt some new tricks. A few days ago he suddenly started blowing, going pfft, pfft, and now he can make a sound with a recorder. He can feel his birthday coming and on is getting ready to blow out the candles. Eli is entirely different to Grace in this sense due to her oral dyspraxia. Grace was only blowing things when she was about 2, and it was a major achievement when she did blow out her candles at her second birthday party (using a straw for assistance).

His other new trick was to sign “all done” at lunch today.

Grace had a baking need today, so it was banana muffins first thing in the morning followed by ginger biscuits in the afternoon.

The spinning saucer

We went to meet Keren and for a bike ride in Green Point Park this morning, and Grace had super-loads of fun riding her bike around. Eli and her also had some fun in the play area, especially on the spinning saucer…until Eli head butted her and gave her a bleeding lip.

The boys and the girls were a perfect even match in weight on the seesaw

Don’t go rubbish truck!

Our morning routine didn’t follow the normal path with today being a public holiday, and even though it is a public holiday the rubbish truck still comes to collect. So our bin was not out and along comes the rubbish truck. I burst into action, but the problem with where our rubbish bin is kept is that if the car is parked too close to the wall then we have to move the car to get the bin out. And that is obviously the case. I rush back in to get the car keys and Grace is standing at the window looking at the rubbish truck, tears streaming down her face, crying, “Don’t go! Please don’t leave! It’s leaving!” distraught at the idea that they might leave without emptying our bin.

Fortunately I was able to pull the car out, manoeuvre past the car and run to the end of the road to line our bin up to be emptied. If I hadn’t, who knows how long it would have taken to console our sensitive, precious little girl, who for some reason is having a particularly sensitive time at the moment (it’s not like this is the first time we’ve forgotten about the rubbish bin).

And the rest of our day was a beautiful, relaxed, and fun public holiday in the sun.

Excuse me

We were eating breakfast and Grace was moaning/crying about something (I don’t remember exactly what), and suddenly there is a smelly odour filling the room. Donné says, “Who farted?” and Grace quickly says, “Not me!” Hmmm, pretty strange seen as the evidence points in that direction. A few moments later Grace says. “It was me, but I can’t say excuse me because I’m crying.”

I caught something!

Now just reel it in gently Grace

We’ve discovered that helium balloons are a wonderful source of cheap fun (even if they only last for a day)

Take a photo of me

Donné recently took a photo of Grace while she was sleeping, and now every night she says to Donné, “Take a photo of me.” The flash is pretty bright, and Donné says, “Grace, I’m not going to take a photo of you, it will disturb you.”

“No mom, it won’t bisturb me.”
