Reading and puzzles

Eli’s reading and puzzles have suddenly come in. For a long time reading was a bit of a mission, with him not sitting still long enough for us to read a book to him, but over the past month or so he has really come to love his reading time. In the evening he will sit through three books, and Donné is also reading to him during the day, and he is loving it.

Grace was building 50 piece puzzles by the time she was two, but Eli hasn’t really been into puzzles until the last few weeks. He has now started putting form and 2-3 piece puzzles together nicely, and is working on 6 and 9 piece puzzles. He is excited about them and enjoying them, so we’re embracing this sensitive period for puzzles and reading.

Ducky’s and gunfire

After the strawberry picking we went to the Root 44 market with our friends. Grace has been waiting and waiting for a chance to play the Ducky game again after last time, saving up her chore money for both her and Hannah to have a turn. Going for the Ducky game was just about the entire reason she wanted to go.

Eli also had a turn this time, but wasn’t worried about the prize, he just wanted to keep catching ducks

Grace also had a turn to fire a paintball gun at some cans (thanks André!). Hannah went first and carefully aimed between each bullet. Grace had more of a reign-of-fire approach with the bullets coming thick and fast. She did actually manage to hit one of the cans though.

Ready, aim, fire-fire-fire-fire…

Everyone had fun riding in the teacups

After all of that we all just enjoyed a day together, playing, talking and taking a walk down to the park.

Sanding the floors

The guys that sanded the floors used a buffer for the final sanding of the floors (like the kind they used to use in shops to buff the floors). Eli saw them, and he also got a plastic mower this weekend…and then came up with his own game.

Brunch

One of the (many) things that we’ve been enjoying about our new home is entertaining people. The space just lends itself to spending good time with friends in a beautiful environment. This morning Em, Jason, little David, and Mel joined us for a brunch which lasted well into the afternoon. Good, relaxing times with close friends.
