In the end it will be okay

It is just 8 weeks (or less!) to go until our little lad joins us in the world, and I'm feeling quite stressed about it. I am working pretty hard at the moment and am concerned about how life will change once he joins us. I know from experience that life does change significantly, and that it can be quite challenging at times. I am hoping (oh please Lord!) that somehow we will have learnt a bit from the last 3 years of parenting which might help us out a bit, but I do know that he is going to be an entirely different child to Grace and we also have to look after her well at the same time.

My worry is that I am going to struggle to be the kind of parent that I want to be, as well as deliver a great service to my customers. I don't really know how it is going to work out, but I do know that we'll make it through it and in the end everything will be okay.

Dance! Stop!

Grace and I were throwing a balloon to each other, when she says, "Dance! Dance! Dance!" until we all start dancing. The three of us dance a bit until Grace suddenly says, "Stop. Okay, that's enough of that. Throw balloon." She toddles off, fetches the balloon, we throw it a few times, then, "Stop! That's enough of that." And so the cycle goes.

Tracy’s swimming lessons

There is no doubt that Grace knows her swimming lesson exercises well. In the bath she takes Tracy (one of her dolls), hold her legs out straight and kicks away with them, then Tracy does a "chooka train" along the edge of the bath, stops and does a "bouncy bouncy on the wall, bouncy bouncy till we fall" goes onto her back, turns back onto her tummy and grabs the side. Wash, rinse, repeat.

The baby is coming

No, not really coming….not right now at least…..but there is that feeling in the air, like the change of seasons or the smell of a thunderstorm. I've been building cupboards, Donne has been tidying, we bought Grace a new car seat today (a booster, which she is very chuffed with), and we bought our first set of nappies. The baby is coming. Just 8 weeks now (officially), but I'm working on 6 for a small margin of safety.

It has been a while since Grace and I have been for a swim together. Sickness and various other things have kept us away, but today we finally got it together, and when we got there she totally surprised me by jumping onto her pool noodle and kicking her way first across the pool, and then back to the step. I have never seen her move so well in the water! I am just glad she is finally kicking a bit – maybe it is the practice she has been getting in the bath. For the last week or so, at the end of her bath, she has been diving (literally) into the bath and kicking like a crazy person (with all the water spray that one would expect). Back and forth she goes from one side to the other – dive, splash, kick. The practice seems to have paid off.

I told Grace that we were going to go and see Keren and she was super excited. I missed the first few seconds when she said, "I'm so excited to see Keren!" which was then followed by the "Keren! Keren!" dance.

Apology accepted

Grace was using the toilet and called me when she was done. After we were done wiping she says to me, "Sorry for the stinky poo dad." Apology accepted my angel.

Happy Women’s Day!

I’m guessing that they spoke about Women’s Day at school yesterday, because today Grace was running around shouting, “Happy Women’s Day! Happy Women’s Day!”

Squeeze!

Grace has picked up a new habit at swimming. Once she is done, she whips off her swimming costume pants walks to the pool and squeezes the water out of them. Once her top is off, then it gets a squeeze too. And this week she is still enjoying her swimming partner.

When I collected her for swimming Kim (one of the teachers) told me that she was trying to climb up the jungle gym to get to the other children, which means she is gradually venturing out more and more.

An unexpected fly-by

I was sitting at my desk talking to a colleague on the phone and I see something outside drifting past my window. Looks like a balloon, but I didn't see Donné and Grace outside and it was a bit windy to play with balloons outside. Hmmm, a rather longish balloon with a particular pointy bit on the end. That's when I had to stop the conversation due to my laughter and explain to my colleague that a condom balloon had just floated past my door. Not too sure where it came from, but definitely unexpected. A minute or two later there was more laughter as it popped and sent a cat flying in fear.

Grace has started talking about children at school that she likes, "Hannah, Emma, Christina, and someone with a very tricky name." I wasn't too sure who she meant and later it came out that she was talking about Willow….those L's in the middle…
