The Drop
There is a drop at the mountain bike track that Grace hasn’t worked up the courage to go down. It is higher than anything else there but looks much worse than it actually is.
Today Eli inspired his sister by going over the edge. And then Adam joined in too.
Fun day at Kirstenbosch
We spent a lovely day at Kirstenbosch enjoying the beautiful gardens, walking, picnicking, running down hills, chatting about plants, snakes and a variety of other things.
Family photo before doing the Tree Canopy Walkway
Grace loves being in nature and was super happy and peaceful, Adam was Adam and he loved the open spaces to walk, run and climb. He amazes me with his physical endurance. Poor Eli had a pretty bad ear infection (which we discovered that evening) so he was less enthusiastic but still enjoyed himself.
‘Run Adam run’ … No its not that it’s ‘wait Adam wait‘
When going on an outing with 3 kids make sure you have lots of snacks. While we stopped to snack here a group of Chinese tourists asked if they could have a photo with us. Grace and Eli thought that was very funny.
Eli ready to go home
We really do live in a beautiful place
Entrepreneurs day
School finished on Friday and with it brought the first entrepreneurs day for the year. The theme was reduce, reuse, recycle and Grace made pencil cases out of 500ml bottles.
Grace was determined to work independently and worked diligently, cutting, gluing, and sorting out the zips all on her own. I’m so proud of her hard work and drive.
On the day she shared a stand with Callum who sold banana bread. Waiting for the customers
Grace did an amazing job and as usual persisted in her selling until she had sold all her stock.
Ballet progress
Grace is still really enjoying her ballet and it was great to see how she has progressed when we went to watch. I think one of the biggest changes I noticed is that her ability to follow the music has dramatically improved.
Mr Cool
Eli likes to stare at himself in the mirror and try out different hair styles….as Grace says, “What’s he going to be like when he is a teenager??”
Mr Cool’s hairstyle (that he did himself) before bath time
Up the mountain
The cousins are here and today it is up the mountain we go!
Everyone did pretty well in the queues until we finally got to the part where the cable car arrived.
Cable car selfies – it was loads of fun going up for the first time in about 20 years….and the kids enjoyed it too.
The girl cousins
Going up!
The dassies were a source of great joy at the top
All the cousins at the top of the world
And us
Grace, who had been full of nerves before getting to the top, was super happy when we got up there. The vastness of the ocean and how small everything was down at the bottom seemed to have a big impact in her. She was just staring out and I asked her what she was thinking and she said, “Just thinking about how small I am.”
The excitement
The cousins are coming…..
The Cousin Who Shall Not Be Named, The Little Cousin and Annie arrive today and the children seem excited.
Sanding Adam
All the decking boards are now up on the fort – just a light sand and some sealing and we’re done! (okay, and some more concrete).
I like having my helpers with me…
Eli’s calamity weekend
It all started when I arrived back from a mountain bike ride to find Donné in tears – she had to deal with Eli discovering how a cable tie works and that pulling harder doesn’t help to get it off. The tricky bit was that he decided his wrist was a good place for this experiment. A tight cable tie on a wrist attached to a hand that is gradually going purple presents some challenges, especially given that it is very tricky to get something in there to cut it off. Donné managed to get it off with some nail scissors, so all was well in the end (barring Donne’s frayed nerves).
We spent some time at Vergelegen and while we were there Eli bashed the back of his foot, where he already had a blister that was healing, which resulted in blood gushing all over the back of his foot and an impromptu bandage made from paper towels.
After arriving back home from Vergelegen Eli was riding his bike around the pool and somehow rode into one of the outside table chairs and bashed his lip. He then had a nice fat lip to go with his damaged foot.
And after all of that, some photos of our Sunday afternoon trip to Vergelegen.

Socks
Poor little Addy has been having a bad bout of eczema so the Dr has recommended damp sock bandages over cream….let’s see how it goes.
Luckily the little guy thinks they are awesome
