Tony toothmouse

To celebrate 11 months of life, Eli has popped his fifth tooth.

Coincidentally, Tony the Toothmouse came to visit at Grace’s school today and made a huge impression. All that Grace spoke about today was Tony. “When I had a photo with him, he was sooo warm and furry. He was shy so we had to sit quietly. He was so funny, but I didn’t laugh, just inside my head, but then he danced and Catelin and me laughed and laughed. He had pink ears, and a tail. He was big, like an adult….so he’s not really a mouse.”

A summer party

Grace: “Mommy, will parties in the springtime have slip-n-slides?”
Donné: “Grace, are you missing the summer parties with slip-n-slides? Unfortunately you won’t ever be able to have one of those on your birthday….unless we happened to live in the Northern Hemisphere, close to The Cousin Who Shall Not Be Named. Then your birthday would be in the heat of summer.”
Grace: Pause….”Mommy, can you organise a play date with the cousin?”

Happy birthday Liam

Liam is just 5 weeks older than Eli, and he had his 1st birthday party today. Just five Saturdays from now and it will be Eli’s first birthday.

Happy birthday, here’s your right hook to the face! (It was not actually a punch, he was just trying to get to Liam’s hair)

Gripped

hunger-games

When the book bug bites Donné, it bites hard….especially if it is a trilogy or series that she is reading. Last week Friday we watched the first Hunger Games movie, which pulled a trigger for her to read the book, and the next, and the next. And now she is back from her trip to Panem and fully engaged with the rest of us again.

I on the other hand, have just finished book 2.

The children seem to be coping okay. They have learned to make their own fire and roast small insects from the garden for sustenance. Good life skills.

Rained out

We had some heavy rain this morning resulting in flooding at school, so children were collected and it was the start of a long weekend (to allow them to sort out the mess from the water). So Grace got to spend a day playing with brother.

This is what we do with fridge magnets, pick it up, have a look, turf it

Daddy’s awesome! Mommy…..

Grace says to Donné, “Daddy’s awesome ‘cos he can fix anything. Mommy, you’re not so awesome because you can only fix a few things.”

Catching a cuddle

Grace and Eli catching a cuddle on one of the display beds at Woolworths. As a side note: did you know that Woolworths donates all of the store display bedding to charity when they are done with it?

New tricks

Eli has learnt some new tricks. A few days ago he suddenly started blowing, going pfft, pfft, and now he can make a sound with a recorder. He can feel his birthday coming and on is getting ready to blow out the candles. Eli is entirely different to Grace in this sense due to her oral dyspraxia. Grace was only blowing things when she was about 2, and it was a major achievement when she did blow out her candles at her second birthday party (using a straw for assistance).

His other new trick was to sign “all done” at lunch today.

Grace had a baking need today, so it was banana muffins first thing in the morning followed by ginger biscuits in the afternoon.
