Fiona Baker always makes amazing party food (very yummy rocky road moon rocks)
Grace and Eli had a great time. Eli cruised around just loving the people, and Grace made friends with a little girl, Isabella, who is the same age as her, and had loads of fun running around and playing with her.
Donné has been watching Masterchef, and has been coveting a digital food thermometer like the ones that they use. Her Mother’s Day gift was a digital food thermometer and today we tried to make some Italian meringue which requires measuring the temperature of a sugar syrup exactly. It also ideally requires a mixer, so we dusted off the very old Kenwood Chef that we happen have.
Egg whites in the mixer, and syrup bubbling away on the stove being measured until it got to exactly 121ºC. The syrup goes into the egg whites in a thin stream while the mixer does it’s job, and ta-da! Italian meringue….yummy. Still a bit of work to do on technique and timing to get the right consistency, but a very good result for the first time.
Donné iced a cake from a new recipe she was trying with the meringue
Our house has been sold! We have accepted an offer, and now it is just awaiting bond approval. We signed the mandate with Chas Everitt last week Wednesday, the “For Sale” board went up on Thursday, we had about 25 interested buyers through on Sunday and Monday, and we have accepted an excellent offer at the asking price. Now we just need to make sure our new bond gets approved, else we’ll be looking for a place to stay…
Eli was sneaking a peek at the builders putting up our neighbours wall. He is half naked because we’re in the process of potty training, which is going fairly well.

Mother’s day was a busy day…busy getting ready for a show house. We did get to spoil Donné a bit though, Grace made her two cards, Eli and I made her another, and I got her a digital food thermometer which she has been wanting since she started watching Masterchef.
We met Keren at the Waterfront while the house was on show, and Grace’s face tells a story of how well things were going. Grace was doing just about everything wrong and losing privileges left, right and centre.
Some take away sushi at the end of a busy day
When we went to get some lights this morning, Grace climbs into the trolley and says, “Take a photo for mommy, happy mother’s day!”
We’ve bought (well kind of) a house in Somerset West! We have an accepted offer to purchase, and just need to get approval from the bank at this stage. It also means that our house is on the market, and on show tomorrow. We originally wanted to keep our current home and rent it out, but it doesn’t look like the bank will go along with that in terms of total bond repayments. So after a little bit of coming to terms with giving up our home, it is now on the market.
Here is the agent’s listing, and here are photos we took back in 2006, when out kitchen was only half done.
The three of us were playing with Grace’s green material tunnel. I was a monster eating them up with the tunnel, and they were just having loads of fun rolling around and being silly together inside the monster.
