Grace and Duncan painting her little kitchen / wash stand

Grace is really enjoying all her imaginary play at the moment.  A large part of today was spent "baking" cupcakes, brownies, coney rolls, and cake for Little Girl (from her Lego) and Pig's birthday party.  According to Grace it was Little Girl's 2nd birthday and Pig's 6th.  Goodies were baked, friends were invited, happy birthday was sang and candles were blown out.  Hours of fun playing this game.  Grace got the cupcake tin, a cake tin, beaters, baking paper etc from the kitchen and used her playdough to bake the cakes.  It was very sweet to watch, we all got to sample her delicious treats!

Grace is very safety conscious so when she made a car for Little Girl and Pig they had to get seat belts made of elastic bands, so they could be safe 🙂

Cuddling with Ker

Like Ker’s car

When we are driving Grace spots cars. If it is a white golf it is, "Like Ker's car," and if it is a red car (or any sort) then it is, "Like Gogo's car." Today she even spotted a white golf and said, "Like white golf."

Thank you Lord

I just want to say thank you to God for helping me through an intense time with work. I pushed really hard and was blessed with focus and alertness. It’s not quite over yet, but we’re nearly there. Thank you Lord

Halls aversion

Donné is a bit sick at the moment and bought some Halls to try to soothe her throat, but as far as Grace is concerned she would prefer that mommy and her breath stay away from her. She puts her hand over her nose when she happens to drift into the smell zone, and in her words, “Mommy stinky. You stay inside, I go outside.”

Chop, chop

Donné went for another scan with Keren and I was left at home looking after Grace this morning. I went to the office, just chop-chop, to fetch the phone and check if an email I was expecting had arrived. Out of the house, maximum 5 minutes, most likely less. What do I come back inside to?

What's that lying on the floor?

Grace decided to remodel her hair style…. I guess that is what happens when you have a three year old who can use scissors, has recently watched her mommy having her hair cut at the hairdresser and is left alone cutting paper.

Jack and Kim were visiting today, and before the clan went off for a cup of coffee it was potty time. Grace sits on the toilet, "I'm a girl, I sit. Jack's a boy, he wee in garden." Jack obliged.

When brushing….

Safe?

Today when we went swimming Grace was managing to keep her head above water. It is the first time I have seen her be able to kick and keep her head above water. Above water is just her head turned up with her face just above the line of the water – out of the water enough to breathe, and that is the important bit. She was jumping off the ladder and managing to make her way back towards the stair on her own. She wasn't getting all the way to the stair, but was making progress, enough to get close enough to me to allow me to grab her.

I am very impressed. She might even just be able to save herself if she does ever fall into a pool. I think right now she would probably still get too stressed and not know what to do without someone in the pool, but we will keep practising until turning around and grabbing onto the wall are second nature.

Bye bye Aunty Mel breakfast

Our special friend, Mel, is off to the UK for at least 6 months, so we had breakfast at Rhodes' Memorial. Grace found someone to help her watch the fish in the pond.

Hmmmm….I wonder what's in the pond?

Yay for Auntry Mel! You will be missed, but may your trip be everything you want it to be and more.

Rock a by cheesy

Grace loves to grate cheese (even if she doesn’t like to eat it), so while I was making pizza she was grating away. After the cheese was grated, reheated, moved from board to plate and back again, and squished a bit, she picks up two handfuls and goes, “Rock, rock, rock,” while rocking the cheese back and forth, then puts it down on the plate and starts with the next handful.

I guess we’ve been unsuccessful at teaching her to not play with her food…but I’m not a very good role model.

Grace was helping me to open the post, and inside one of the bank statements there was dome marketing material (buy stuff, buy stuff!) This, Grace decided, was a, “super surprise!” She opened it up, sits in her chair and says, “Reading my newspaper.”

At least the bar for a super surprise has been set low.
