Friday get togethers

I look forward to my monthly get together with three special friends.  The time is always busy – filled with drinking tea, eating lunch, stolen chats and ensuring 3 little people are happy and playing nicely, a bit chaotic but always fun!

Today we went to Mel's house on the farm and after being their about 30 minutes Grace signed that she smelt something and when I asked her what she could smell she said "chicken" 🙂 I think the highlight for all 3 children when we are on the farm is seeing the chickens, watching the various egg machines, sitting on forklifts and golf carts and Grace definitely enjoys seeing the dogs!

Thank you friends that I get to be a part of your lives and you a part of mine!

Fading memory of sleepless nights

Yesterday I was speaking to my auditor about his twins. They are now about 5 and a half months old. He is not getting much sleep and he just sounds pretty bleak at the moment. When I look back over the past two years, some things feel so far away – like sleepless nights and nappy changes. It is a weird thing – when you are in it, it feels like it will never pass, but once it has passed it fades to a distant memory very quickly.

One thing is for certain, as Grace has grown and gotten older, both Donné & I have enjoyed her more and more. I love the process of her discovering the world around her and enjoy being a part of her new discoveries.

Bo the fireman tasting the birdseed. He might as well eat it as the birds don't seem interested (will have to work on the bird seed cake recipe).

Donné has been trying to get a decent shot like this for a while now.

Horse clicks

Grace has started clicking her tongue – making a noise like the clip clop of horses feet. I think it is very cute, and am glad she is doing it as it means her oral motor planning is making nice progress.

Washing Day!

Grace and I spent a lovely day with Karen and Caleb, building puzzles, swinging, reading, playing with prestik and washing various soft toys!  Grace became quiet attached to one of Caleb's bears and after dropping him in the sand, Caleb decided to give Bear a sand shower.  Of course the logical progression from this point is a proper bath with soapy water, so Bear as well as a few other friends got to have a bath. This turned out to be so much fun for both Caleb and Grace, and watching them was also treat.  There were two things I found rather amusing; watching Grace wash Bear, then rush over to the dirt make him dirty and then wash him off again and secondly dropping Bear into Caleb's bucket a number of times and as quickly as Bear was dropped into the bucket, he would be removed by Caleb and put back into Grace's bucket 🙂

Sleeping in

I can't remember the last time I slept until I woke up on my own (i.e. without Grace or an alarm waking me up). This morning Grace decided to sleep in a bit and both her parents were awake before she was – I guess that was a late birthday present. Today was a great relaxing day with our friends Em & Jay who we appreciate so much – it is a blessing to have such special friends. Grace pottered around, played on her jungle gym, and just had a generally calm day.

Last night I remade the bird seed cakes using a bit more gelatine and a bit less water. Round 2 worked out much better….now we wait and see if the birds approve.

Birthday bird seed cakes

I got to spend some fun time making bird seed cakes with Grace this morning while Donné was out at a baby shower. While we were out getting what we needed Grace kept saying, "bird" and then "nom, nom" (for eat). Once I got the very excited girl home we just had a good time mixing gelatine and bird seed. I probably should have paid closer attention to the instructions (or looked for more instructions), as they pretty much fell apart when we took them out of the moulds….which lead to me spending time remaking them tonight. Hopefully they will have set properly by tomorrow….

It was a good laid back day for my birthday. A big thank you to everyone who has sent messages and phoned today – I really appreciate it, thank you for the love.

Pat it down (with a bee spoon, it is very important that it is a bee spoon – at least according to Grace)

And stick some straws in them (for holes for the string)

The limp

Grace's leg is getting better everyday, but she still has a bit of a limp.

Fun filled day of baking and rolling

Today Grace was busy busy busy in the kitchen.  We baked Duncan's birthday cake this morning.  She enjoyed throwing the ingredients into the mixing bowl, cracking the eggs and tasting the mixture – which got 2 thumbs ups and a nod of approval.  This evening Grace helped Duncan roll the tortillas, but in all honesty I think she preferred eating the dough more than rolling it!

Hop-along

So today started with a trip to the X-ray rooms. Yesterday afternoon, while playing on her jungle gym, Grace stepped into a ditch in the garden and managed to do something to her left leg. The crying was not as bad as when she fractured her right leg (which was at 13 months), but she did not want to bear weight on it – just like when she fractured her leg. After some phone calls to the doctor we went off for X-rays, but got there after their normal business hours. So back we went this morning.

Fortunately nothing is fractured, and we had already seen that she was beginning to take some weight on her left leg again. We are not too sure exactly what she hurt, but she is now walking around with a bit of a limp. We have kept her off of her feet most of today, and she seems to be doing fine, just a little bit of pain if she walks or stands too much. Hopefully she will be 100% in a couple of days.

It turned out to be a bumpy ride for my girls today. Donné whacked her head so hard that she cried, and Grace took a dive off the toilet and left an imprint of the mat on her head. They are both fine. I made it through the day without injuring myself.

TIA – Grace's skorokoro bus, people jam packed inside and animals on the roof
